Fort Knox, KY Jet Crashes Into Auto, June 1948

JET PLANE CRASHES AUTO, KILLS FOUR.

Fort Knox, Ky. (UP) -- A P-80 jet propelled shooting Star crashed into an automobile on a takeoff run Saturday and killed all four occupants of the car. The pilot, CAPT. WILLIAM MEYERS, Elgin Field, Fla., was not injured.
The victims were identified as MR. and MRS. VERNON C. FERREN, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; FERRIN'S sister, MISS LELA FERREN, 61, and SPENCER BLACKBURN, 43, also of Elizabethtown.
Eye witnesses said the plane apparently did not get airborne before the crash, but shot along the runway.
