ENGINEER BLINDED BY BLIZZARD

Drives His Train Past Station and Collides Head-On With Local.

TOPEKA, Kan., Jan. 5.---Engineer J. W. Chalfant was killed and fifteen passengers injured early today when Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe train No. 12 overran the station of Wright, near here, in a blinding snow storm and collided with a local train. Engineer C. A. Deming in charge of the passenger train, was also fatally injured.

Engineer Deming could not see the lights of the station at Wright because of the blinding snow. He was to have passed local train No. 565 at that point, but continued on at a high rate of speed and the two trains crashed head-on.
