DEATH RIDES WIND IN TWO WESTERN STATES.

HALF A SCORE OF BEINGS DIE IN TORNADOES IN KANSAS AND NEBRASKA.

Geneva, Neb., June 6. -- At least eight dead, four fatally hurt and several others more or less seriously injured was the result of Friday's tornado, which swept across Filmore county. The dead:
LULU SMITH, servant in the home of JOHN SHIVELY.
ELIJA ARMBRECHT, two miles east of Shickley.
IRENE SHIVELY, four years old, daughter of JOHN SHIVELY.
Two children of JOS. FLEMING.
HENRY MADISON, farmer, near Franklin.
Unknown Woman at Craleton.
Fatally injured:
JOHN MERRIAM, near Shickley.
MRS. ELIJA ARMBRECHT.
ROSS SHIVELY.
MRS. YOUNG, near Fairfield.
Last night forty farmers came to Franklin with their families for shelter, their homes being entirely destroyed. Other towns in the parth of the tornado were Edgar, Fairfield, Inavale and Chester, all of which suffered more or less damage. At Fairfield 22 buildings, including three churches, were wholly or partly wrecked.

TWO CHILDREN KILLED.
Salina, Kas., June 6. -- It is reported here that two children were killed and two other persons injured by the tornado which struck near Phillipsburg, Kas., yesterday. Nine farm houses were demolished and other property destroyed.

COURTLAND, KAS., STRUCK.
Omaha, Neb., June 6. -- A tornado struck Courtland, Kas., near the Nebraska line last night, killing and injuring several persons and destroying much of the town.
