MASONIC TEMPLE AND ADJOINING BUILDING ARE DESTROYED.

CONTENTS TOTAL LOSS.

FIRE RAGES FOR HOURS DESPITE EFFORTS OF FIREMEN.

Carroll, March 20. -- Fire which originated in the basement of J. A. STROHM & Co.'s department store in the Masonic temple, completely destroyed that building and contents and damaged the BRUMER building adjoining. The total damage cannot be estimated as yet.
The fire is still burning, but it is thought to be under control. On the second floor was located the telephone exchange and offices. On the third floor were the Masonic lodge, Eastern Star and Citizen clubs' quarters.
Firemen and citizens are fighting the flames heroically and will control it unless the wind changes.
In the same block is located the post office, the German Bank of Carroll county, the Carroll Herald and other prominent enterprises.
