ONE WOMAN IS KILLED
MRS. RACHEL SPRINGMIRE OF TIFFIN IN ACCIDENT.
Her son, W. C. Springmire Will Recover from His Injury in Yesterday’s Street Car Collision.
MRS. RACHEL SPRINGMIRE, aged 65 years was instantly killed yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock when a [illegible] Dubuque street car struck the [illegible] wagon in which she and her son were driving at the intersection of Bloomington street. The [illegible] of the car against the wagon and the plunge given by the frightened horses threw both her and her son to the pavement and [illegible] below. Mrs. Springmire’s head struck the sharp brick and death came practically instantaneously. Her son, though unconscious was able to walk to the university hospital but at a late hour last night he had not regained consciousness and it was feared for a time that he had a blood clot upon his brain.
This afternoon, however, a report from the hospital states that he will recover, although as yet he knows nothing of the accident.
The motorman and conductor of Car No. 4, the one which struck the Springmire wagon, as not working today. Frank West was the motorman of the car, while Conductor Deane was riding on the back end of the car.
The limp body of Mrs. Springmire was rushed to the Homeopathic hospital in hopes that life, which was thought to be extinct, might be revived. All efforts on the part of the attending physicians were fruitless however.
The inquest over the dead body of Mrs. Springmire is being held this afternoon at Coroner Hind’s undertaking parlors on South Dubuque street.
Mrs. Springmire leaves seven sons and two daughters to mourn her death. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
