Keokuk, IA Huiskamp Bros Explosion, Nov 1896

David Kaldenburg went to the oil store house of the Huiskamp Bros. at Keokuk. The winter's supply of oil had been laid in and about $1,000 worth of oil was in the storehouse. It is presumed that he stepped on a parlor match, for he heard a slight explosion under his foot, and the next instant the whole inside of the building was on fire. He escaped without injury, but his 3 year old nephew was somewhat burned.
