TWO KILLED, SIX INJURED IN CRASH NEAR MASON CITY.

TWO WOMEN OCCUPANTS OF AUTOMOBILE IN SERIOUS CONDITION.

Mason City, Ia. -- (AP) -- Two persons were fatally injured and six others were hurt early Saturday in a headon collision between a car and a southbound Jefferson Transportation bus about 7 miles north of Mason City of highway 65.
MORRIS HANSON of Austin, Minn., driver of the car, was killed instantly and RAYMOND LIVINGSTON also of Austin, died in a local hospital from injuries received in the crash.
The other two occupants of the auto, VIRGINIA WOOD and VIOLET SWEET, also of Austin, received cerebral concussions and were reported in a very serious condition at a hospital here.
MISS SWEET regained consciousness long enough to identify herself and companions. She gave her age as 20 and said the others were about the same age.
MISS WOOD had not regained consciousness.
ROY WALTON of Minneapolis, driver of the bus, reported that he had just crossed the first steel truss bridge south of Manley when he saw the car approaching.
It headed first to the right onto the shoulder of the highway, WALTON said, and expecting it to swerve when it returned to the paving, he drove his bus onto the shoulder on his side of the road but was unable to avoid the collision when the car went out of control.
State highway Patrolman Clare Hoffman and Sheriff Tim Phalen who investigated the accident said that the bus driver had run down eight guard rail posts on his side of the road in attempting to avoid the accident and that he had narrowly averted rolling his bus into a 10 foot deep ditch.
WALTON said that he encountered fog before the accident but that it seemed to be clearing away at the time of the collision.
Four of the 10 passengers on the bus who were injured and who were taken to the hospital for treatment but later dismissed were VIRGIL HARE of Rock Island, Ill., cut on the face; MRS. R. A. HOWARD of Mankato, Minn., bruised on the left knee; MRS. ELSIE KINDRED of Des Moines, abrasions to the left knee; and MRS. H. PORTER of Fresno, Cal., abrasions and bruises.
