DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT BURLINGTON.

PALMER'S OPERA HOUSE DESTROYED -- COURT HOUSE IN RUINS -- TWO HOTELS BURNED.

FOUR SQUARES OF BUILDINGS CLEARED BY THE FLAMES -- 49 BUILDINGS IN ASHES.

LOSS $307,800 -- INSURANCE $150,000.

Burlington, Iowa, June 19. -- A fire originated in PALMER'S Opera House at 3 o'clock this morning, and rapidly extended in all directions. The most prominent buildings destroyed are the Opera House, UNDERKIRCHE'S livery stable, BONNETT & FRONTZ'S carriage factory, McCUTCHEON House, Scandinavian House, and a number of dwellings, besides a lumber yard and a woodyard. The total number of buildings destroyed is perhaps 30 to 35, a large portion being old frames. The burnt district is bound by Water, Washington, Third and Court streets. All the buildings inside of the above limits were destroyed, but seven. The total loss is put at $400,000. Total insurance, $140,000.

LATER -- The fire was brought under control about 8 o'clock A.M. A steamer from Ottumwa, and one from Galesburg, arrived just previously, having been telegraphed for. The total number of buildings destroyed is forty-nine. Four squares were burned over, the bounds of which, with losses and insurance are given in the first dispatch.

Burlington, Eve., June 19. -- The losses by the fire of this A.M. are $307,800. The flames scarcely touched the business part of the city. Some 40 families were thrown out of homes, besides a large number of boarders at the public houses destroyed.
Already several owners of property burned are preparing to rebuild. MR. ARMSTRONG, one of the owners of the Scandinavian House, contracted for three hundred thousand brick to rebuild, before the roof of the old building had fallen in. There were other instances of like character.
Among the insurance companies losing are the State of Des Moines, $1,200, and the German of Freeport, $5,000.
