TOWN OF ORLAND SUFFERS BIG LOSS.

A ROW OF BUSINESS BUILDINGS DESTROYED BY FIRE FROM GASOLINE EXPLOSION IN BAKERY.

Angola, Ind., Dec. 31. -- Practically an entire block of business buildings, including the hotel of the town, the post office and the Masonic hall, with some stores, were laid in ruins early last evening by a fire which started in the bakery and restaurant of CHARLES BROCK, caused from a gasoline explosion, in the town of Orland, which is situated about twelve miles northwest of here. The buildings destroyed are:
The BROCK restaurant.
The WILBUR hotel.
JENNING'S general store.
BARKER'S agriculture implement store.
The JOHN STUCK building, containing the post office, the Masonic hall, another small building used as a lodge room and a pool room. Most of the contents of the buildings, except the bakery, were saved. A part of the furniture was also gotten out of the hotel. Postmaster STUCK saved his stock of stamps, and his records.
The loss will amount to several thousand dollars. All of the buildings were frame, some of them old, and the fire after it had spread from the BROCK restaurant to adjoining buildings could not be controlled. The town is without a fire department and aid was sent for to Angola. The department here responded, but all they could do was to prevent the spread of the flames to other buildings in the town.
