Newcastle, IN Train Wreck, May 1886

WRECKED BY A WASHOUT

Indianapolis, Ind., May 14.---- An eastbound passenger train on the Indiana, Bloomington & Western railroad, which left at nine o'clock Wednesday night, ran into a washed out culvert near New Castle, Henry County toward midnight. The engine, baggage car and first passenger car plunged into the abyss. J. W. Trenary, the engineer, James Hudson, the fireman, both of this city, and an unknown passenger were instantly killed in the crush and the baggageman and the conductor were severely injured. All of the passengers were more or less bruised, but none seriously hurt.
