Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky Swept by Fatal Cyclone.

Score of People Killed in Kentucky Village – Three Dead in York – Two Indiana Deaths.

CHICAGO, June 8 – Twenty-nine known, dead, and forty persons injured, constitute the list of casualties resulting from storms of tornado severity which swept over southern Illinois and Indiana and central Kentucky last night and to-day. These fatal visitations came in the shape of cloudbursts, high winds and electrical disturbances. The property damages will reach many thousands of dollars. Houses were swept away, bridges demolished and thousands of acres of growing crops were destroyed.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind., June 8 – More than seventy persons were killed or injured by tornadoes, cloudbursts and electrical storms in Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana last night. Many homes were destroyed. Bridges were washed away, crops damaged and live stock killed.
Twenty-one persons were carried away by a cloudburst at Gradyville, Ky. All the bodies except two have been recovered.
New Minden, Ill., was visited by a tornado, the second time in eleven years, and four persons were killed and twenty-four injured.
At the old town of York, Ill., on the Wabash river opposite, Sullivan county, Ind., a tornado killed two persons and injured twenty.

LEG TORN FROM HIS BODY
Carried to Fellow Employes, Who Thus Became Aware of Accident.

BEDFORD, Ind., June 8 – While the storm was raging last night WILLIAM TAPP, thirty-five years old, employed at the United States cement mill, was caught in a conveyor and only saved himself from being ground into mincemeat by grasping a rod and holding until his leg with its foot was torn from his body and carried above and thrown out among some fellow employes, who began the search for the remainder of their comrade, who was found in the described condition and with a hip also broken.
