DAMAGE IN "THE POCKET."
Bridge Washed Out and Farm Crops Damaged Again.
EVANSVILLE, Ind., June 8.---One of the most severe electric storms in many months passed over southern Indiana late last night and serious damage is reported from some sections. The display of lightning and wind was followed by a heavy downpour of rail that lasted for several hours. The streets were flooded and in many places bridges were washed away.
Reports of the damage from last night's storm from points within hundreds of miles of Evansville are still coming in. At Corydon, Ky., the Baptist church was destroyed by lightning and the damage will be $5,000. A residence at Smith Mills, Ind., was also destroyed by lightning. White river at Petersburg, Ind., rose twenty inches last night, and is on the worst rampage since last January. Farmers fear more rain will mean a big flood.
