North Manchester, IN Fire, Oct 1885

Fort Wayne, Ind., Oct. 12 – The fire at North Manchester was caused by two intoxicated men in Hide Bros restaurant overthrowing a lamp upstairs. The fire consumed the entire block in which the restaurant was situated. The losses are: Hamilton’s opera house, Jenning’s grocery, Pearl’s barber shop, Thomas’ clothing store, Hamilton’s saloon, Kripner Bros. meat market and Johnson Bros. livery stable, all totally destroyed. Loss $40,000, insurance not over $10,000. This was the largest fire that ever visited this town.
