Bad Spill At Monday Races Horse Is Killed

Over 1,500 See Horses and Motor Cycles Race at Park

Horse Worth $500.

Fritzie, the bay stallion trotter, killed yesterday in the race, was estimated last night by Harry Elliot, owner, to be worth $500. No insurance was carried on the horse against accident.

Fritzie wax one ht the most promising trotters in northern Indiana and was showing up well on the local track. The horse was sired by Peter the Great, noted race horse.

Two drivers narrowly escaped serious injury and Fritzie, a horse owned by Harry Elliot was injured so severely that it was shot by police fifteen minutes later in an accident in the second trial heat of the free for all trot, during the horse races at the Driving park yesterday afternoon. Veterinarians attending the horse said its leg had been broken.

The accident occurred on the back stretch of the track in the final lap. Fritzie, driven by Hom Bodine, was closely following Can’t Help It, driven by William Langan. Can’t Help It stumbled, fell and Bodine’s horse fell over the wrecked cart. Both drivers were hurled high in the air, but escaped with minor bruises. Can’t Help It was only slightly bruised.

Fifteen hundred people witnesses the afternoon racing program, and exciting brushes both in the motorcycle and horse races, maintained interest throughout. Motor races and horse races were alternated during the afternoon, so fans of both types of sport had continuous entertainment. On account of the accident to Fritzie, the ten mile motorcycle races were cut down to five, and it was 6:30 before the final race was completed.
