LOSES PART OF THUMB.

A. B HOUCK, a patternmaker employed at the Bass Foundry and Machine works, while at work in the pattern-making department yesterday afternoon, attempted to work a piece of wood through a self-feeding planer, which resulted disastrously to one of his digits. In forcing the wood through the machine the thumb of his right hand caught in the gearing in some manner, badly lacerating it. DR. W. W. BARNETT was called and amputated the member at the first joint.
