Auto Caught In Storm Wrecked, Causing Death
Two-Year-Old Daughter of John Ware, of Huntington, Killed in Crash.
Accident Near Markle
(Special to the News.)
Huntington, Ind., March 29.-Caught in the storm while driving from Markle to his home in Huntington. ALBERT WARE lost control of his car Sunday afternoon, driving the car into a ditch, the accident causing the death of his two-year-old daughter, GENEVA BELLE.
MR. and MRS. WARE, together with MR. and MRS. JOHN WARE. Mr. WARE’S parents had been visiting the Stuart family at Markle during the day and were on their way back to Huntington when the storm rose suddenly. A severe gust of wind struck the machine, taking Mr. ALBERT WARE’S hat. In attempting to recover the hat the driver took one hand from the wheel and this, together with the heavy wind, took the machine from his control.
At the time of the accident, the child was sitting on the lap of its grandmother. The sudden lurch of the car as it left the road threw all the occupants from their seats. Mrs. JOHN WARE received a severe scalp wound from the crash, but she was the only other occupant of the machine to be seriously injured.
The affair was over so quickly that the parents, even the mother hardly know what happened to the baby, but her head was struck against a telephone pole. The baby died before Dr. A. H. NORTHRUP of Markle reached the scene. It is thought its neck was broken.
