Twenty-five victims of northeastern Indiana’s and northwestern Ohio’s tornado are in Fort Wayne hospitals today, several of whom may die. Broken limbs, and severe cuts from flying debris are the most common of the injuries received by the victims. In some cases the patients’ wounds were not cleaned and it is feared that there may be some cases of infection.

At the Lutheran hospital CHESTER FIELDS, of Geneva, and J.T. MARQUARDT, of Monroeville, are the most seriously injured and it is considered doubtful if either will live. With CHESTER FIELDS at the Lutheran Hospital are his brother, ROBERT, and his father and mother. Mr. and Mrs. PERRY FIELDS. All of the family are victims of the storm.

At St. Joseph’s hospital HELEN PINDREY, the daughter of GEORGE PINDREY, of Geneva is the most seriously injured, and it is believed that he chances of recovery are slight.

Taking care of the storm victims here is taxing the staffs of the hospitals to the limit. All of the hospitals have been filled to capacity during the entire winter, and this sudden call to care for the storm victims has filled every available bed.

Only the most serious cases have been brought to Fort Wayne. Relief cars, sent out from Fort Wayne this morning under the direction of the Red Cross, brought a number of the injured in, although a large number were brought to the city last night on special relief trains.

Cars are scouring the country today finding other victims, and it is thought that by tonight the whole area will have been covered and all of the injured care for. The relief work was slowed considerably this morning by the barriers on the roads. Telephone poles were bent and broken like toothpicks and scattered about like so much dust. All of the roads will be cleared by tonight, it is believed.
