YORK, ILLINOIS PRACTICALLY DESTROYED BY STORM

Terre Haute, Ind., June 8. - The village of York, Ill was destroyed by a cyclone last night. Several people were killed and a score injured. Twenty-five or thirty houses were destroyed. The details are meagre, the wires being down.

York is located on the Wabash river southwest of this city in Clark County, Ill.

The known dead are:
Henry Rook, aged 50.
Mrs. Malinda Pinkston, aged 45.

Members of the families of the two victims were more or less injured.

The number of injured is placed at thirty.

A special from West York stated that owing to the wires being down and bridges washed away communication with York was impossible. It was further stated that forty or fifty houses had been demolished.

The cyclone struck the village shortly after the supper hour and raged for several minutes. Reports from points south of here in Indiana say the storm was very severe and several inches of rain followed, doing big damage. No casualties are reported from other points.
