Engineer Killed While On Vacation

Frank Scott Falls Under the Wheels of Locomotive

Engineer FRANK SCOTT of the Wabash was killed at Springfield Wednesday evening, by being run over by a switch engine. SCOTT was formerly a fireman in the through freight service between Decatur and Hannibal, but was promoted some time ago. Since then he has been running west of Bluffs.

Found By Switchman.

Mr. SCOTT was visiting his parents in Springfield at the time of the accident occurred. He had left his home a short time before the accident and had started on an errand. Encountering switch engine No. 431 he climbed aboard to chat with Switchman H.B. Slade, who was riding on the footboard.

Near Tenth and Cook Streets SCOTT got off. That was the last seen of him until about three minutes afterwards, when Switch Foreman C.L. Miller went back a short distance from where the engine stopped to throw a switch and found SCOTT’S body lying between the rails. His body was cut in two.

It is not known how the accident occurred, though it is suspected that SCOTT missed his footing in alighting and fell under the wheels.

His Stay In Decatur.

SCOTT was born and reared in Springfield, where he graduated from the high school, later attending Notre Dame University. He leaves his father and mother and two sisters. While he ran into Decatur he boarded and roomed at the Railroad Y.M.C.A.
