MAN KILLED BY TRAIN AT MADISON

Amos Forbes, Aged 22, Struck By Illinois Central Train Yesterday.

AMOS FORBES, aged 22, was struck by Illinois Central passenger train No. 501 about two miles north of Madison at 4:25 p.m. yesterday, resulting in instant death.

The man was walking down the track when the engineer saw him and blew the whistle. He made application of the air brakes, but too late to prevent striking the man.

The body was taken to the Lahey Undertaking Company at Madison and through a card in the man’s pocket his mother and sister, were located. They are Mrs. Laura Forbes, who makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. James Williams, at 4148 A Blaine avenue, St Louis, Mo.

They were immediately notified and came to Madison at 9:30 o’clock. Mrs. Forbes said that she had not seen her son since four years ago when he joined the army. He was discharged at Fort Sheridan last March and in April he enlisted at Dallas, Texas. He evidently had been wandering around at the time of his death.

An inquest will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at Madison.
