Several Dead And Dying Are Left At New Minden

Nashville, Ill., June 8--A tornado swept over New Minden 7 miles north of this city, early today, killing five persons and injuring several. A number of houses were demolished.

The injured
Mrs. CARL STUEMEYER may die. HERMAN WEIHE, arm and leg broken and internally injured, 10 year old child of HENRY HESEMAN, abdominal injuries. A score of others were bruised by debris.

The storm struck the northern portion of the town and most of the houses destroyed were country cottages.

The Lutheran church was badly injured, the steeple being blown down and the roof blown off. On the north side of the church the parochial school was demolished. These buildings were practically the only ones in the village proper that were damaged. The tornado leveled about seven farm houses. The WEIHE house, in which four people were killed, was about the last house struck. It was completely demolished. The occupants were carried with the debris of the house into the adjacent fields.

Four Killed at New Minden.

St. Louise, June 8. – A telegram from Nashville, Ill., says the tornado struck New Minden, Ill., early today, killing four and injuring a score. The dead are:

MRS. HENRY WEIHE and two children.
Child of CARL STUMEYER.

Injured:
Mrs. Carl STEUMEYER, may die.
Herman WEIHE.
Child of Henry HESEMAN and a score of others bruised.

Henry WEIHE died during the day, making five victims of the tornado and wiping out the entire WEIHE family.

The storm struck the northern portion of the town, where there were the most houses and destroyed many cottages. The German Lutheran churh [sic] was badly damaged. The parochial school was demolished.

These buildings are practically the only ones in the village proper that were damaged. From this point the tornado continued and leveled about seven farm houses. Much live stock was killed.

At Covington considerable property was damaged. Nobody was hurt.
