FIGHTING FIRE
Twenty-three Men are Overcome by Smoke at Chicago.
Chicago, July 21.--Twenty-three men were overcome by smoke while fighting fire in the basement of Gustave Pretzel’s commission house, West Randolph street, last night. Five of the men were carried out in an unconscious condition, while the remainder managed to stagger to the street and were then conveyed to their various engine houses. None will die, but the most serious cases were the following:
John Ashbaugh, A.A. Fritzbie, Harry O’Brien, Daniel Reardon, Geo. Thompson.
The property loss was small.
