1 Dead, 2 Missing, Big Fire
Chicago, April 29.-Lieutenant of Firemen William McElligot is dead, two persons are missing and six seriously injured as the result of a fire today which destroyed Elevator “B” of the Illinois Central Railroad. The elevator is a total wreck and the loss is estimated between $800,000 and $1,000,000.
The missing are Simon Cooper and a workman known as “Mike.” The injured are Captain Kirwin, William O’Brien, John E. Heinburg, Benjamin Ramsay and John Bevans, a newspaper reporter.
The fire began in the midst of an electric storm, and is supposed to have been started by lightning.
