Sag Bridge, IL Trolley Cars Collide, Mar 1902

FATAL TROLLEY COLLISION.

THREE DEAD AND SIX INJURED IN WRECK ON THE SPOT OF A FORMER DISASTER.

Joliet, Ill., March 28. -- Two men were killed and seven persons injured, one of them fatally, in a head-on collision at Sag Bridge today between two cars of the Joliet and Chicago Electric Railroad.
The dead are:
JOHN MAU, a motorman, of Joliet.
GEORGE BARRETT, of Lockport, an electrician in the employ of the Economic Light and Power Company.
G. H. HURLEY, of Joliet, a conductor.
The latter died from his injuries.
The injured are:
H. McLAUGHLIN, a motorman, of Joliet.
JOHN FLAVIN, of Lockport.
JOHN RINN, a workman, of Lockport.
JOE WOLFF, a laborer, Joliet.
WILLIAM MURPHY, workman, Lockport.
SAMUEL SPENCE, quarryman, Lockport.
The injured were brought to St. Joseph's Hospital here. SPENCE is in a critical condition, and the others will probably recover.
The wreck was the result of a head-on collision between two cars going at a rapid rate of speed. A dense fog prevented the motormen from seeing ahead. The wreck occurred near Sag Bridge, about twenty miles from Joliet. The cars came together with terrific force, and were piled in a chaotic state. The scene of the accident is the very spot where a terrible wreck occurred on the Chicago and Alton road twenty-nine years ago, when over a score were killed.
