Humboldt, IL Train Wreck, Aug 1902
Fatal Northwestern Wreck.
One man as killed and another was injured in a rear-end collision between two east-bound special stock trains on the Chicago and Northwestern three miles east of Humboldt. The first section, a double-decker, was running not more than twenty miles an hour when it was struck by the engine of the second train. Conductor ROE HARLAN of the head train jumped and his head was crushed. The caboose was hurled thirty feet. Six stock men on the leading train were slightly injured. Engineer E. C. NORRIS of the second train jumped and his arm was broken. The fireman escaped. The dead conductor is blamed for not having red lights displayed on the rear of his caboose.
