East Saint Louis, IL scalded by hot coffee, May 1910
BABE SCALDED TO DEATH
HENRY SIEBUHR, AGED TWO MONTHS, MEETS PITIFUL DEATH.
The funeral of Henry, the 2 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. henry Siebuhr of East Saint Louis, who was scalded to death, took place [illegible] St. Peter's Cemetery on Sunday.
The baby's 5 year-old sister, Minnie Siebuhr, was wheeling him by the gas stove where a pot of boiling coffee was standing. A handle of the cart caught the coffee pot in such a manner that the pot was overturned and the boiling contents thrown over the body of the baby.
The mother, standing near by, ran to him and at once began to pull off his clothes, but too late, as the tender flesh was almost cooked, and the mother's hands were terribly burned in her efforts to relieve the pain.
