Lake Forest, IL Fatal Football Game Accident, Sept 1900

Probable Fatal Football Injury

Chicago, Sept. 27.-Lawrence Pierson, Lexington, Mo., Lake Forest University’s crack half-back, was probably fatally hurt in yesterday’s game with the South Division High School. He is paralyzed. During the game Pierson attempted a hurdle play, fell and struck on his head. When picked up he was unconscious. An examination showed that his spine had been so seriously injured that almost a total paralysis had followed the shock. The attending physician thinks Pierson has a fighting chance of recovery.
