POCATELLO CAR SHOPS BURNED TO GROUND
Flames Confined to One Building and Loss Is Placed at $250,000.
(Special Dispatch)
POCATELLO, Oct. 28.---The Oregon Short Line car shops at this place burned to the ground this afternoon, entailing a loss of more than $250,000. The fire was discovered at 5 o'clock and owing to the highly inflammable contents of the building spread rapidly and was beyond control before the fire department could reach the scene. This shop, which was built three years ago, was a building 60X150 feet and contained thousands of feet of finishing wood of great value besides machinery, tools, oils, and paints. It was located just north of the big machine shops in the way, but the department aided by a strong and favorable wind confined the flames to the structure in which they started.
Hundreds of people lined the viaduct and watched the magnificent spectacle of the flames which shot sky-ward for 200 feet. Local heads of departments state that rebuilding will commence at once.
