Mount Harrison, ID Bomber Crashes, Feb 1945

WRECKAGE OF LARGE AIRPLANE FOUND NEAR BURLEY, IDAHO.

Burley, Feb. 10 (AP) -- Wreckage of a large airplane was found near the top of Mount Harrison, about 20 miles southeast of here Saturday afternoon by Lieutenant Harry Harris, flight B leader of the Twin Falls squadron of the CAP.
Six planes from the Twin Falls unit, as well as two from Boise, two from Pocatello and one from Mountain Home, had been searching for the plane after one was reported to be missing somewhere in this area Friday night. Lieutenant Harris, with Cadet First Sergeant Roy King of Twin Falls as observer, spotted the wreckage at four-forty p.m.
The CAP officer said that it was only about 100 feet below the top of the peak and was at an altitude of about 9,500 feet. He said that the plane was in deep snow and that it had not burned. No sign of life or any tracks were noted around the plane, he said.
The plane is believed to be one listed as missing from the Mountain Home air base, but officials there were quoted as saying that confirmation could not be made until ground crews reach the spot Sunday.
CAP planes from here plan to circle the spot to aid the ground crews tomorrow.
Flying here from Boise to direct the search was Captain Max Sheridan, executive officer of the Idaho CAP wing.
