Waimea, HI Tour Plane Crashes In Mountains, June 1989

DOWNED PLANE FOUND; 11 MISSING.

Waimea, Hawaii (UPI) -- The scattered of a tour plane carrying a pilot and 10 tourists was found Tuesday in a foggy valley of the northeastern tip of Hawaii island. Authorities said there was no sign of survivors.
The Scenic Air Tours twin-engine Beechcraft C-18 was sighted by a Hawaii county fire department helicopter near an 1,800-foot-high waterfall in rugged, picturesque Waipio Valley shortly before 6 a.m., the Hilo Fire Department said.
Marine Corps spokesman KERRY GERSHANECK, in communication with a ground search team above the crash site, said debris from the shattered, orange plane was spread over 200 to 300 yards.
"There are no pieces large enough to identify as an aircraft," GERSHANECK said. There was no sign of survivors, he said.

1989 plane crash in Waipio valley

September 14,2008
Fi and I went into the valley to give our aloha to Ann Herbert and the others who lost their lives on this tour....Fi and I could feel the presence of her mother (Ann) beyond question...there was even a small wind funnel that picked up a bunch of leaves and spun them around Fi. The mana within this valley is awesome, truly an experience everyone should enjoy at least once in their life time.
