Volcano, HI Earthquake, Mar 1979
SHARP QUAKE SHAKES ISLE OF HAWAII.
Volcano, Hawaii (UPI) -- A sharp earthquake shook the Island of Hawaii early Tuesday and woke residents on the neighboring islands of Maui and Oahu.
The U.S. Geological Survey in Denver said the quake, which caused no damage or injuries, occurred at 5:08 a.m. (10:08 a.m. EST) and measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.
Robert Decker of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory
said his instruments measured its strength at 4.7.
USGS officials said the temblor was centered near the south coast of Hawaii.
