Griffin, GA Lightning Causes Fire, June 1912

BOLT DESTROYS MILL AT GRIFFIN.
NARROW ESCAPE MADE BY THE PEOPLE AT WORK IN THE BUILDING.
Griffin, Ga., June 25. -- (Special) -- The large planing mill and chair factory building of JOHN W. WOLCOTT was struck by lightning during a terrific rain and electrical storm this morning, causing a disastrous fire which totally destroyed the building and all its contents in a short time.
MISS CALLIE HUNTER, the stenographer, had placed all the books and valuable papers in the vault and lock it and these were the only articles saved. The employees barely had time to escape from the burning building. There was no insurance and the loss is estimated at $10,000. The building was one of the old landmarks of Griffin.
