Orchard Hill, GA Train Wreck, Jan 1907
Griffin, Ga., Jan. 19, - Central of Georgia freight train No. 42, bound for Macon, in charge of Conductor Harry WHITMAN and engineer GREEN, jumped the track at Orchard Hill, six miles south of Griffin, Friday afternoon, while the huge engine was making full speed. The engine tank and thirteen cars were almost entirely demolished and the track was obstructed all night, causing the Chicago and Florida (illegible) and passenger train No. 12 to be turned back to Atlanta at the scene of the wreck.
All trains Friday night were operated over the Southern Railway to Macon.
Evan KENDRICK, a negro brakeman, was painfully though not fatally injured in the head and left ankle by falling from the top of the tank. No cause is assigned for the wreck.
