DEATH AND DISASTER BY TORNADO
GEORGIA REPORTS GROW WORSE.
About 200 People Injured---Loss to Crops and Property Will be Large.
The tornado which struck south Georgia has left a trail of death and disaster, the reports of which grow worse as time passes. The valley of the Chattahoochee is almost swept clean. At noon yesterday the deaths reported were 19, and at least 200 are more or less hurt. The loss to crops and property will be large, but no estimate can yet be made. Of 25 school children buried in the ruins of the Arlington academy, none are dead and more will die. Prof Abel Walker, the principal, is dying. Prof Covington will recover. That part of Florida west of Tallahassee, southwest Georgia and southwestern Alabama, through which the storm raged with such fury, is largely without telegraphic service, and the extent of damage wrought cannot be learned.
