A SMALL BLAZE IN GRIFFIN.

GRIFFIN, October 27 – [Special.] – This morning about 2:30 o’clock the alarm of fire was given by the police, and flames were soon discovered rapidly devouring the large barn on the old Beeks homestead. It is supposed to be the work of an incendiary, as no one had any occasion to be about the house after nightfall. Two fine hogs and some forage were burned. The loss is about $200, with no insurance. Had the wind been in a different direction, more damage would have been done. The fire department, as usual, did good work. Griffin has been quite fortunate in having fewer fires than any city of its size. One of our live insurance men said today that in two years he had only paid out $1200 in losses and had sent out nearly $30,000 for insurance.

We are having very dry weather, but manage to keep down the dust by sprinkling the streets thoroughly with hose from No. 2 attached to our water plugs every day.
