Scraven, GA Cotton Gin and Grocery Store Fire, Oct 1891

A Fire at Scraven.

JESUP, Oct. 28.---[Special.]--At Scraven, a station on the Savannah, Florida and Western railroad, seven miles south of this place, late yesterday afternoon fire destroyed the stream cotton gin of Grace & Henry, together with fourteen bales of cotton and several tons of cotton seed; also their railroad wood rack located close by, and over seven hundred cords of wood.

A small grocery store located near the gin was also burned with all its contents. The loss is over $5,000, with no insurance. The fire was started from a match in the cotton which was being ginned.
