Americus, GA House Fire, Jan 1889

A frame house belonging to Mr. Ike Hudson, about three miles from Americus, on the Starkville road, was destroyed by fire Monday night. It was occupied by Mr. Will Herrington and family, who lost everything they had except the clothing they had on. All of his bedding, clothes, furniture, provisions, etc., were swept away in an hour. Mr. Herrington is a poor, hard working man, and is deserving assistance and sympathy for the public.
