Ivy Griffin, Scout, Killed

GAINESVILLE, Ga., (AP)--Ivy M. Griffin, Chicago Cubs baseball scout and a former major and minor league player, was killed yesterday near Gainesville when his car left the highway and overturned.

Relatives at Mobile, Ala., said Griffin, 61, was on a trip in Georgia scouting players for the Cubs. He had lived at Mobile several years.

Griffin, a native of Thomasville, Ala., broke in as a first baseman with the Atlanta Crackers in 1919. He was sold to the Philadelphia A's, where he played until 1921.

Griffin is credited with discovering Andy Paiko, Milwaukee Braves outfielder.
