Dalton, GA Spreading Rails Cause Wreck, June 1912

SPREADING RAILS ON SOUTHERN RAILROAD.
CAUSE WRECKING OF WESTERN & ATLANTIC EXCURSION TRAIN IN GEORGIA -- THREE PERSONS KILLED AND MANY INJURED.
Dalton, Ga., June 12. -- Three persons were killed, but more than 30 hurt when a Western & Atlantic excursion train running from Calhoun, Ga., to Chattanooga, Tenn., was wrecked near here this morning.
The dead are:
Fireman HOLCOMB.
ARTHUR PITCHER, section employe.
JOSEPH MILLER, negro porter.
The injured are being brought here. The cause of the wreck is not known.
The wreck occurred in a cut and was caused by spreading rails. Four cars were overturned which was responsible for the long list of injured.
