Kingston, ON Propeller Ship China Fire, Oct 1872

KINGSTON, Canada, Oct. 14.---The propeller China left here last evening, bound up, having on board 300 tons of pig-iron and a quantity of merchandise. When about fourteen miles out it was discovered that she was on fire, and notwithstanding the utmost by two steamers which were close at hand, she burned to the water's edge. It is supdosed[sic] that she sunk. All hands were saved. The origin of the fire is unknown. It had made great head-way before being discovered. It is said that the propeller was insured for $24,000, which will not cover the loss.
