Newport, DE Train And Wagon Collision, Apr 1889

THREE KILLED AT A CROSSING.
Wilmington, Del., April 25. -- JOHN W. DIS and wife, and JAMES M. LINDERMAN, a boy of 12 years, were killed at Newport, five miles south of here, at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon on the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore railway. They were driving across the track there, and were hit by the northbound New York and Washington express. The man and woman were killed outright, the boy soon after dying. The people were in a wagon and became bewildered by the shouts of warning from bystanders and stopped the team of the track. At that moment the train struck them. The horse was killed and the wagon demolished.
