Northern Delaware Storms and Lightning, Jun 1875
Terrific Storms and Lightning.
A Wilmington, Del., dispatch of Wednesday says; Heavy storms, accompanied by very severe lightning, prevailed over Northern Delaware and the adjoining sections of Pennsylvania from early evening to a late hour last night. The rain fell in floods, but no great damage is reported to property. In Mill Creek Hundred, the wife of John Pierson, sitting in the door of her house, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. Near Blanton, a farmer named Lewis Welsh was at the barn, when a bolt descended and killed him, stunning a companion. Near Elkton, the house of Capt. John T. Jones was struck and four of his family severely stunned, and his daughter Ida, a young lady, killed.
