FEAR TWO DROWNED AS DOWNPOUR BRINGS FLOOD IN DELAWARE
WILMINGTON, Del., July 7.--Swept away by flood waters, two men are believed to have been drowned while Delaware experienced its most destructive wind and rain storm in forty years Monday night and Tuesday. Approximately 100 families were driven from their homes.
Crops on thousands of acres of farm lands were destroyed or badly damaged bridges were washed out and virtually every important road in the state was under water, marooning long lines of motorists. Property damage was estimated at several hundred thousand dollars.
The main lines of railroads between Wilmington and Baltimore were washed out. President Roosevelt's special train, en route from Hyde Park to Washington, had to be rerouted to the Pennsylvania railroad lines as a cloudburst wiped out a Baltimore & Ohio bridge near Norton. Many communication lines were ripped down.
