Allings Siding, CT Train Wreck, Sept 1907

SLIP OF MEMORY

Believed Responsible For Wreck at Allings Siding, Conn.

New Haven, Ct., Sept. 16.--An inquiry into the railroad collision at Alling’s Siding on the Berkshire division of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad yesterday, was made by Medical Examiner Barnett of West Haven today, but his finding will not be given out until it goes to the coroner.

The facts seemed to point to a slip of memory on the part of Engineer Johnson of the train from Ansonia and who was killed, in not slackening speed as the train came down to the siding, although reminded of the passing point by conductor Barns a short time before.

Johnson was in a wreck some time ago and had only recently been re-instated. Fireman Polton and Baggage master Brennan of the southbound train were in a wreck last spring.

All the persons who were hurt in the wreck yesterday were reported today as being recovered somewhat, none having received any serious wounds.
