FIREMAN DIES IN BLAZE AT HARTFORD.

Hartford, Conn., Jan. 3. -- One fireman died, three were overcome by smoke and gas, and another was injured today, in a fire which extensively damaged a five-story building here.
The loss was estimated at $20,000.
Capt. PHILIP E. DUFFY died in a hospital 10 minutes after collapsing outside the building. The fire was discovered this morning in a basement beneath the Walker restaurant. The cause was undetermined. More than a dozen occupants of apartments on upper floors were rescued by firemen.
