TRAIN JUMPED THE TRACK

SERIOUS WRECK IN THE CITY OF LEADVILLE.

A Number of Passengers Injured, Among Them Some New Yorkers--The Coaches Filled With an Excursion Party Bound for Chicago and the East.

Leadville, Col., April 1--By the spreading of rails the Rio Grande passenger train, east bound, was wrecked in this city last night and a large number of passengers were injured. The train consisted of ten cars, six of them being sleepers, and all were crowded. The whole train, except the engine and baggage car, left the track and rolled down an embankment a distance of ten or fifteen feet. The seriously injured so far as reported are:

Mrs. H. Martin, Denver.
J. E. Heyworth, St Cloud, Minn.
T. N. Nye, New York.
J. T. Cahill, Los Angeles, Cal.
C. H. Walling, Sheppard, Mich.
Mrs. E. Satler, San Francisco.
Mrs. T. A. Guthrie, Chicago.
Mrs. G. Wilson, Chicago.
E. T. Perry, St. Louis.
E. R. Pike, Chicago.
Mrs. E. R. Pike, Chicago.
J. R. Wallace, Mercer, Pa.

A majority of the passengers were members of a Phillips excursion party, bound from California for Chicago and Eastern points. A heavy snow storm prevailed at the time of the accident and there was considerable suffering among the wounded before they were removed to the hotels.
