DAM ABOVE MARSHALL, COLO., MAY BREAK AND WIPE OUT MINING CITY; WORKERS FIGHTING LEAKS.

Denver, June 3 -- Scores of workmen today are endeavoring to stem a threatened breakage of the Marshall Lake dam, 23 miles north of Denver. Leaks discovered in the dam have resulted in detourment of all Railroads and interurban trains. Fears by town people of Marshall that the dam would break momentarily, were allayed somewhat by railroad engineers working to stem the flow of water seeping thru the leaks, who expressed confidence that the dam could be saved.
The lake is 800 acres in area and 63 feet deep. Should the dam break completely it is feared the entire town of Marshall would be wiped out and large damage undoubtedly would be done to mines and railroad lines in the district.
Marshall is a small mining town located about a mile from the dam.
Officials of the Colorado & Southern railroad and the Denver and interurban lines declared the detourments were ordered because they feared there was a possibility the dam might break suddenly and completely.
