LOCOMOTIVE EXPLOSION RESULTS IN THE DEATH OF TWO IN COLORADO.
Colorado Springs, Col., Nov. 25. -- Denver & Rio Grande engine No. 578, on west bound freight train No. 69, exploded near Swaklow, at the Santa Fe crossing, twenty miles below Pueblo, yesterday.
The killed are:
JOE PERKEY, fireman.
GUY LIVINGSTON, head brakeman.
The wounded are:
W. G. PENNINGTON, engineer, seriously cut on head.
F. W. JOHNSON, brakeman, seriously cut.
ANDREW BODON, conductor, seriously cut and bruised.
The cause of the explosion must be determined later by an investigation. The overhead Santa Fe bridge was burned; also twenty Denver & Rio Grande narrow gauge cars and contents and 1,000 feet of ties in the track, the rails being twisted out of shape.
Wrecking trains of both the roads are on the ground and the tracks are about cleared. The loss will be close to $25,000.
