SHRINERS MEET DEATH ON RAIL

Twenty - Two People Are Severely Injured - Cars Are Piled Upon Track.

Santa Barbara, May 11. - 4 p. m. - One of the Shriners' specials going north over the S.P. Coast line has been wrecked near Honda, 65 miles north of here. Nineteen were killed.

Los Angeles, May 11 -“ 8:30 p.m. - It has just been learned from local S. P. Officials that nineteen were killed in the Honda wreck.

The train was made up of four sleepers, a baggage car and dining car, and was a shriner special, composed of the Ismailia Temple of Buffalo.

The train was running at the speed of 40 miles an hour when derailed and did not roll down an embankment, as at first reported.

The cars piled on top of each other. No cause is given for the wreck, but it is reported to have been a broken rail.

The railway officials admit that a large number were injured.

San Francisco, May 11. - The following advices were received at railroad headquarters in this city shortly before 9 p.m.

Extra no., 2412, engineer Champlain, carrying Shriners, was derailed at Honda, 65 miles north of Santa Barbara, caused by an obstruction on the track, wrecking the engine, baggage car, dinning car broken in two, three sleepers derailed, not badly damaged; will pass trains around wreck at 9 p.m.

Reading and Buffalo Shriners belong to Ismalia and Rajah temples.

Twenty-two severely injured 8 or 10 more slightly. Some of the seriously injured will probably die. Special trains from Santa Barbara, Lompoc and San Luis Obispo with doctors and nurses have been sent out. The most seriously injured were sent to the hospitals at San Luis Obispo.
