San Jose, CA Fatal Fall from Fire Escape, Sept 1908

Fred Levy Has A Bad Fall

FRED LEVY, the well known merchant, fell from the fire escape of the Hotel Imperial last evening at a distance of thirty feet to the cement court and was dangerously injured.

Mr. LEVY, who rooms at the hotel with his brother, went to the fire escape balcony to deposit some waste paper in the garbage can.

He either fell over the railing in the dark or stepped through the fire escape opening. One of the occupants of the hotel saw him falling and gave the alarm and he was taken in an unconscious condition to the Belvedere hospital where he was attended by Dr. Wayland.

Levy’s Condition Critical

At a late hour this afternoon the condition of FRED LEVY, of the Model Clothing Company, who was injured by a fall from the fire escape at the Hotel Imperial on Wednesday evening remained unchanged.

Mr. LEVY was operated on last night by Dr. C.A. Wayland and Dr. Levinsky of San Francisco. Pressure on the brain was relieved in the hope that the patient might benefit.

Dr. Wayland stated this afternoon: “Mr. LEVY is still unconscious and the outcome of his injuries is still a matter of doubt. His condition is very critical.”

FRED LEVY Is Dead

ALFRED M. LEVY, who was injured by a fall from the fire escape of the Imperial Hotel on Wednesday, died at the Belvedere Hospital shortly after three o’clock this afternoon.
